Designed for centralized file storage, personal cloud access, data backups, and convenient file sharing, the Compact Home & Office 2-Bay Desktop NAS provides a practical network storage solution for home users, remote workers, home offices, and small businesses. Built around the Synology DiskStation DS223, this compact system combines two NAS hard drives with a RAID 1 mirrored storage configuration, providing approximately 4TB of usable storage capacity before formatting and system overhead. It is well suited for organizing important documents, storing family photos and videos, maintaining backups of personal and business files, and sharing data between compatible computers and mobile devices. The RAID 1 configuration mirrors data across both installed drives, allowing the system to tolerate the failure of one hard drive while maintaining access to the stored information. Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) provides an intuitive environment for managing files, user permissions, backup tasks, and supported personal cloud applications, making this NAS a convenient solution for everyday storage needs.

The system is built around the Synology DiskStation DS223 2-Bay Desktop NAS, powered by a Realtek RTD1619B Quad-Core 1.7GHz processor and equipped with 2GB of DDR4 non-ECC system memory. The configuration includes two carefully selected 4TB 3.5-inch SATA III 6Gb/s NAS hard drives, providing 8TB of total raw storage capacity. Both hard drives are configured in RAID 1 Mirroring, delivering approximately 4TB of usable storage capacity before formatting and system overhead, with redundancy against a single drive failure. The installed NAS hard drives are selected by our specialists based on availability, reliability, and compatibility with the selected system, so the actual drive manufacturer and model may vary. The Synology DS223 features one Gigabit Ethernet (1GbE) LAN port for network connectivity and three USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for compatible external devices and storage expansion. Powered by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), the system supports centralized file management, network file sharing, data backup applications, and remote file access through supported services. Its compact two-bay design makes it suitable for home offices, personal workspaces, and small business environments where dependable and organized network storage is essential.

The Desktop NAS configurator provides flexible customization options to accommodate different storage requirements, backup needs, and budgets. Increase or decrease the capacity of the available NAS hard drives to match your storage needs, or choose from the available RAID configurations supported by the selected NAS system and number of installed drives. RAID 1 Mirroring is included in the default configuration to provide redundancy against a single hard drive failure, but you can select a different supported storage configuration, including RAID 0 Striping or independent hard drive operation without RAID mirroring, depending on your requirements. Please note that RAID 0 and independent drive configurations do not provide the same drive-failure redundancy as RAID 1, and RAID is not a substitute for maintaining separate backups of important data. Actual usable storage capacity depends on the selected hard drives, RAID configuration, and system formatting requirements. Our specialists review selected storage components and RAID requirements to ensure compatibility and proper configuration before shipment.

Every Desktop NAS System is professionally assembled, fully configured, and thoroughly tested before shipment to ensure dependable operation and long-term reliability. Any selected upgrades are professionally installed, validated, and tested as part of our quality control process. Assembly and testing are included at no additional cost, and every system is backed by warranty and professional technical support.

RAID Setup For Data Storage

RAID Setup For Data Storage

Pair multiple identical Drives together to improve Performance or Redundancy.

Mirroring: At least 2 Drives joined as one, data is exactly the same on each one.
For Example if you have 2 - 1TB Hard Drives your computer will only show 1TB, this is designed to protect against data loss. If a drive fails the data is simply read off the other disk.

Striping: At least 2 Identical Drives with data spread across them.
For example, if you have 2 - 1TB Hard Drives it will look like you just have a single 2TB drive. But if you load a file and both of your drives are sending data at 100Mbps each, your total transfer speed will be 200Mbps.
