Description

Dell PowerConnect 3348 48-Port 10/100 Multi-Layer Class Fast Ethernet Switch C0978. The Dell PowerConnect 3348 switch is designed to address the connectivity needs of organizations that require a highperformance, standards-based switching solution with advanced management and security features. Furthermore, the PowerConnect 3348 delivers tremendous rack density with its 48 Fast Ethernet ports and 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The maximum switching capacity of the PowerConnect 3348 switch across 48 Fast Ethernet ports is 13.6 Gbps while the maximum forwarding rate is 10.1 Mpps. The two built-in copper Gigabit Ethernet ports (10/100/1000Base-T) can accommodate different types of fiber media by inserting optional small form-factor pluggable (SFP) modules in the SFP slots. Alternatively, one of the Gigabit Ethernet ports can be used for stacking multiple systems together so that they can be managed as a single system.

Features and Benefits:

Enables full wire-speed switching across all ports, including Gigabit Ethernet ports and stacking ports. Takes full advantage of the speed of the devices connected to the switch.

Provide 10-times higher bandwidth than Fast Ethernet ports. Help eliminate performance bottleneck at critical traffic aggregation points; use Gigabit Ethernet with standard Cat5 cabling.

Accommodate various types of Fiber interface modules (e.g., 1000SX, 1000LX; modules sold separately). Flexibility to use fiber media if large distances have to be covered by the network.

Allows or denies traffic based upon user-definable parameters, such as source/destination MAC address, source/destination IP address, source/destination TCP/UDP port, DSCP value and IP Precedence. Enforces security policies established by network engineers and delivers greater security controls over the network.

Provides the capability to manage several switches as if they were a single system.  Delivers simplified management of multiple switches.

Utilizes separate transmission queues for low and high priority traffic and prioritizes traffic based upon user-defined criteria, including L2, L3 and L4 information. Helps ensure low-latency delivery of time critical network traffic, e.g., traffic associated with voice or video communication and helps ensure time-critical network traffic is delivered as per network administrator’s prioritization needs.

Automatically configures ports for speed, duplex mode, flow control and cabling used. Helps reduce network set-up time.

Delivers authentication services to validate user access to switch management. Provides enhanced security by allowing only user-defined access to the switch.

Encrypts traffic between the management host station and the switch for both Telnet (SSL) and web traffic (SSH). Encrypts traffic so that rogue users sniffing the network cannot capture and utilize sensitive management data, such as usernames and passwords.

Multiple firmware images allow the user to maintain a backup copy of the firmware image on the system. Delivers the ability to store a backup firmware image for quicker restore operations should the primary firmware image become corrupted.
