Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1850 MC-Kit FM radio and MCE remote PCI-E x1 TV Tuner. Hauppauge turns your PC into an HDTV with their WinTV-HVR-1800. This PCIe X1 card has three tuners: FM radio, NTSC, and ATSC/clear QAM. The NTSC tuner is a 125 channel cable ready tuner for all of your standard over the air broadcasts or regular cable TV. The ATSC/clear QAM tuner supports all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i. You can watch the programming live or record it to disk as an MPEG-2 program stream. There is an S-Video input with coax audio inputs so you can attach a VCR to copy your old tapes onto DVD. An S-Video to composite adapter makes it possible to use a wider range of machines with the card.

Clear QAM TV channels are unencrypted digital TV channels broadcast by your local cable operator. Many cable operators in North America are transmitting the high definition ATSC channels on their cable networks. They also broadcast the basic cable channels in using clear QAM. You can use Windows Media Center from Windows 7 to watch and record these channels.

ATSC digital TV is the over-the-air HD digital TV for North America. ATSC digital TV typically requires an antenna for reception, and is currently broadcast in 200 cities, with over 1500 TV stations. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. The WinTV-HVR can be used to watch and record all ATSC formats.
Note:ATSC digital TV is NOT digital cable TV or digital satellite TV. The WinTV-HVR-1600 cannot receive digital satellite TV.

If you are using digital cable which broadcast the local ATSC channels, you can receive these QAM channels with Windows 7 Media Center.
Note: not all cable TV networks send clear QAM channels. Please check with your local cable TV operator for the availability of clear QAM cable TV channels.

Technical Description:

WinTV-HVR-1850 is a single slot PCI Express X1 board, with two tuners: an analog 125-channel cable ready TV tuner, with a built-in hardware MPEG-2 encoder, and an ATSC/QAM digital TV tuner for digital TV reception. The ATSC or QAM transport stream and the encoded MPEG-2 program stream for analog TV is sent to the PC over the PCI Express bus. Note: Media Center currently does not support clear QAM TV.
